Brihittor Sylhet Education Trust aims to provide a wide range of services. The Trust hascommissioned a detailed study on access to education, which will help identify local needs as well as support programme development. BSET will initially focus on five key areas. They include:

Each of the above is outlined in more detail below:

1. Support

Supporting Education & Educational Reform
Our aim is to provide leadership to schools supporting their delivery of reform programmes. Our work will include the development of curriculum standards, capacity building, school improvement, structural reform, institutional strengthening and sustainability, community participation, development of strong and successful public/private partnerships. Our core programme will include:

2. Teach

Delivering Excellence Through Supporting Teachers Learners will be at the heart of everything that we do. This will be the primary focus in supporting teachers in schools, nurseries, out-of-school projects particularly for young people from disadvantaged background. Our aim is to work with a range of partners including:

2d. Gifted & Talented

3. Advise

Improving Careers and Professional Potential
BSET aims to provide advice and guidance to young people and adults offering tailored services focusing on careers, further education & training and professional careers guidance. We aim to work in partnership with a range of agencies at a local, regional and national level. Our service will include:

3a. Information and advice about choices in further education and training.
3b. Careers support through tailored partnerships with industry.
3c. Directing young people who are excluded towards education programmes
3d. Developing strategic linkage with industry and engage them in educational projects.
3e. Develop intern / traineeship programmes.

4. Research

Investing in the Development of Education
One of our core programmes will be to invest in educational research and development, which will be aimed at informing education policy and practice in order to benefit learners. We will be looking at committing for practice-based educational research. Our aim is to ensure that our investment in educational research has a direct impact on beneficiaries via practitioners and policy makers.

As well as our Trust funded research projects we aim to undertake a range of other research projects in the UK and Bangladesh. We aim to engage a wide range of partners within the UK and overseas to fund specific research projects.

5. Train

Enabling Practitioners to Provide Impact
Our aim is to provide innovative training programmes for educating staff from all levels; support staff, teachers, leaders and strategic managers. Not only will our training programmes provide personal development for these staff, they will also provide solid foundations for educational establishments to provide learners with the best
possible opportunities. Some of our specific programmes will include:

5a. Develop potential future school leaders for headship positions
5b. Teacher training for staff in schools for the poor
5c. Help raise standards of English in Primary & Secondary schools
